Massafra is an Italian municipality of approximately 32,500 inhabitants in the province of Taranto, in Puglia. - Massafra Castle. The first news of the castle dates back to 970 while in a diploma from 1081 the castle appears to have been the property of Riccardo Senescalco. During the Angevin rule, the castle took on the appearance of a fortress with battlemented bastions and towers.
- Monte Sant’Elia nature reserve: The reserve consists of the farm of the same name with a nucleus of 18th century trulli, and is surrounded by Mediterranean scrub and holm oak and fragno woods. The Oasis is open and equipped for visits.
- The Stornara Nature Reserve: extends for 1,501 hectares and includes the municipalities of Castellaneta Ginosa and Palagiano. The reserve includes the coastal forest made up of Aleppo pines. The name “Stornara” derives from the numerous starlings that migrate there in winter, hence the nickname “Stornara Nature Reserve”.
